Manchester City plot move for Liverpool target

Manchester City have added Monaco star Thomas Lemar to their list of summer transfer targets, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Pep Guardiola wanted to sign another attacker in January but failed in his attempts to sign Alexis Sanchez and then Riyad Mahrez.

The City board have assured Guardiola he will still get a marquee signing in the summer and now the Spaniard wants to sign Liverpool target Lemar.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Lemar since the end of last season, while Arsenal were unsuccessful in their attempts to get a £90m deal over the line in the summer.

Arsenal have moved on since then but Liverpool can now expect serious competition from City if they rekindle their interest in the France international at the end of the season.

Guardiola is keen on signing Chelsea star Eden Hazard but realises the chances of prising the Belgian away from Stamford Bridge is unlikely even if the player is open to the move.

City are already well stocked in attack and the arrival of Lemar will only enhance their chances of pulling further clear of their Premier League rivals in the years to come.

Only Neymar (13), Florian Thauvin (10) and Kylian Mbappe (8) have provided more assists than Lemar (7) in Ligue 1 this season.
