Arsenal announce new contracts for three players

Arsenal have announced Olivier Giroud, Francis Coquelin and Laurent Koscielny have agreed to extend their stay at the club.

Giroud’s future has been cast into doubt this season after dropping below Alexis Sanchez in the pecking order for a position as the lead frontman.

However, the 30-year-old hinted he would be extending his stay with Arsenal earlier in the month and the Gunners have now confirmed he has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal.

The France international has been joined by fellow countrymen Coquelin and Koscielny in penning similarly long-term deals to provide the club with a January boost.

“We are very pleased that three important members of our team have committed to us for the long-term. Francis has made tremendous technical strides over the past few years because he’s so focused every day,” Wenger told the club’s official website.

“Olivier has big experience in the game now and has become a more and more complete player since joining us. Laurent is of course a key part of our squad and I believe one of the best defenders in the world today. So overall, this is great news for us.”

Of players to have scored more than one Premier League goal this season no one requires fewer minutes per league goal than Giroud (1 every 73.2 mins).
