Roberto Mancini admits that 'anything can happen' in football following reports linking Andrea Pirlo with a move to Inter.
The Italian midfielder, who currently plies his trade with MLS side New York City FC, is rumoured to be closing in on a short-term loan move to Inter during the off-season in order to maintain his match fitness.
Pirlo was on the books for the Serie A side between 1998 and 2001 and current boss Mancini has not played reports suggesting he could return to the San Siro until the next MLS season kicks off.
"I've not spoken to him (Pirlo)," Mancini told the club's official website. "But anything can happen in football.
"MLS is over for the season so maybe he wants to rest, but I'm sure clubs will be interested if he fancies a return to Italy because he's a fantastic player."
Pirlo averaged 67.3 passes per game during the regular MLS season, a return bettered only by Dax McCarty (71.1).
