Manchester City veteran the latest player to pen new deal

Fernandinho has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal running until 2019 with the option to a further 12 months, reports Goal.com

The 32-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign and he would have been free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1.

However, City have actually already made a breakthrough in talks after weeks of negotiations and Fernandinho has signed the new contract with an official announcement expected in the next few weeks.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already convinced David Silva to extend his stay at the Etihad, while Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus are also poised to sign improved contracts.

City are going from strength to strength on and off the field and look to be a force to be reckoned with as long as Guardiola is still at the club.

Fernandinho has established himself as a vitally important player under Guardiola but the City boss will need to find a long-term replacement for the Brazilian in the summer.

Only City team-mate Nicolas Otamendi (1330) has completed more passes in the Premier League than Fernandinho (1313) this season.
