Manchester City fail to agree long-term deal for Sterling

Manchester City have failed in their attempts to agree a new long-term deal for Raheem Sterling, claims Sky Sports.

Sterling has two years remaining on his current £175,000-a-week deal but City are determined to secure his long-term future.

The Premier League champions want to reward Sterling with a new deal that reflects his growing importance at the club.

Pep Guardiola’s side hoped to confirm a new deal before the World Cup but both parties are still miles apart on an agreement.

City have announced deals for a number of important players in the last few months and even Guardiola.

However, talks with Sterling have come to a halt and there are no plans for fresh talks at the moment.

The England international is currently focused on the World Cup and his demands may even increase if he enjoys a solid campaign in Russia.

The 23-year-old played an integral part in City’s league and cup double last season, enjoying his best ever campaign in front of goal.

Sterling scored 18 goals and provided 11 assists in 33 league appearances for Guardiola’s side.
