Manchester United sweating on Jones’ injury news

Manchester United are hopeful that Phil Jones has escaped serious harm after picking up a quad injury during Saturday’s shock 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Jones limped off 23 minutes into United’s defeat to Huddersfield with the score at 0-0 and Jose Mourinho’s side went on to concede two goals in the subsequent 10 minutes that followed his departure from the pitch.

United will find out the full extent of Jones’ injury on Monday amid fears the England international could be set for a long spell on the sidelines, but he was pictured leaving the John Smith’s Stadium unaided.

The 25-year-old is certainly ruled out for United’s trip to Swansea on Tuesday but Mourinho will be desperate to have the defender fit for the weekend’s clash with title rivals Tottenham.

With Eric Bailly also struggling with injury, it could mean Mourinho will have to play Victor Lindelof in United’s next two matches.

The Sweden international has endured a nightmare spell in English football since making the move from Benfica over the summer and was directly to blame for Huddersfield’s second goal at the weekend.

In the 77 minutes that Jones was off the pitch on Saturday United conceded as many league goals as they had in their previous eight matches combined (2).
