Former Olympiakos manager Marco Silva has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant Hull City job, according to Sky Sports.
Hull announced they had sacked Mike Phelan on Tuesday night less than three months after he had secured the full-time role at the KC Stadium.
Former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett was the initial favourite to succeed Phelan but it has now emerged that the Premier League strugglers are considering Silva, who has been out of work since being quitting as Olympiakos coach in June 2016.
After leading Olympiakos to a record 43rd domestic title during his sole season in charge, the 39-year-old was linked with the Wolves job earlier in the season as a candidate to replace Walter Zenga.
Hull want to make an appointment as quickly as possible and are expected to begin talks with Silva on Wednesday with a view to hiring the the Portuguese manager in the next 48 hours.
Under Silva’s control, Olympiakos won their first 17 league matches, which is the longest start made to a European league this millennium. However, he would potentially be taking over a Hull side that is bottom of the Premier League and three points adrift of safety.
