Tottenham star suffers knee injury in Europa League defeat

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Harry Kane is a doubt for Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round clash with Fulham after picking up a minor knee injury in Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to Gent in the Europa League.

Kane, 23, picked up the injury during their shock defeat to the Belgian side in midweek but still managed to complete the full 90 minutes before Pochettino revealed the concern over his star striker.

The England international revealed after the game he expected to recover in time for Sunday’s clash at Craven Cottage but Tottenham’s manager was less sure after another damaging defeat.

“I think we need to assess some players,” the London Evening Standard quote Pochettino as saying after the game. “We need to assess Harry Kane, he got a knock on his knee.

“We need to refresh the team. In the end it is Tottenham that will play on Fulham on Sunday, it’s not about the name of the player.”

The goals have run dry for Kane of late and the Tottenham No.10 could actually benefit from a rest as Pochettino’s side look to get their season back on track. The only goal Kane has scored in his last five outings came from the penalty spot in their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the start of the month.

Nevertheless, he is still in the running to finish the campaign as the Premier League’s leading scorer, although Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (17) is currently three goals ahead of Kane (14).
