Manchester City bid accepted for Manchester United target

Bournemouth have accepted a £41m bid from Manchester City for Nathan Ake, claims the Bournemouth Echo.

Pep Guardiola is keen to get a deal for Ake over the line as quickly as possible with Manchester United also interested in the former Chelsea academy graduate.

Bournemouth are resigned to losing Ake after their relegation to the Championship and selling the Dutchman is now a priority for the Cherries.

With no relegation clauses in the contracts of some of Bournemouth's high earners, offloading the likes of Ake, Callum Wilson and Joshua King will need to happen quickly.

Rather than wait to see whether Bournemouth would reduce their valuation of Ake, City have intensified their pursuit and had a bid accepted for the 25-year-old.

Guardiola opted against signing a replacement for Vincent Kompany last summer and it proved costly as defensive mistakes undermined their progress in the Premier League.

Ake's versatility at left-back is particularly appealing to Guardiola, who also wants to sign competition for places with Benjamin Mendy.

The France international has endured a nightmare spell with injuries since joining City from Monaco in 2017, while Ake has only missed nine league games over the last two years.

Not just capable of playing at left-back, Ake is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and Guardiola believes he will make a seamless transition into the City team.

In fact, Ake finished the 2019/20 Premier League campaign with the best pass success rate at Bournemouth (87.6%).
