Sunderland manager David Moyes as admitted he was offered the chance to sign Emmanuel Adebayor last month, but is not currently looking to bring the Togo international to the Stadium of Light.
The 32-year-old has been without a club since being released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season.
A move to Lyon was mooted, but the deal eventually fell through, with Adebayor free to negotiate with teams outside of the transfer window.
Moyes has since been quoted by ESPN as saying he is not interested in the striker despite being offered the former Arsenal and Tottenham frontman last month.
"We were offered Adebayor probably about four or five weeks ago," Moyes said.
"I didn't do anything about it then and I don't expect to be doing anything about it just now unless something dramatically changes."
