Gareth Southgate picks England captain for 2018 World Cup
Gareth Southgate is set to overlook Jordan Henderson and Gary Cahill and make Harry Kane England captain for the 2018 World Cup, claims The Daily Star.
Six different players have captained England since Southgate was appointed Three Lions head coach in November 2016 as the 47-year-old has opted to rotate the armband during his tenure.
Jordan Henderson, Joe Hart, Gary Cahill, Wayne Rooney, Eric Dier and Kane have all led England out during that period, but Rooney has since retired and Hart and Cahill are no longer first choice at their respective clubs.
Fitness permitting, Kane is about the only player guaranteed to start England’s World Cup opener against Tunisia on June 18 and Southgate will turn to the Tottenham striker to lead the country through the tournament.
Kane has established himself as one of, if not, the best striker in the world this season and is arguably England’s only world-class player ahead of this summer’s major tournament in Russia.
In fact, no player in Europe’s top five leagues has scored more goals than Kane (24) this season.
zero leaders in the entire squad, Henderson shouldn't even be near international football
