De Gea to miss out on Villa trip

Louis van Gaal has revealed that David De Gea will continue to sit out of first-team action when Manchester United take on Aston Villa on Friday evening.

De Gea, 24, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer and Van Gaal does not believe the player is mentally ready to take part in competitive action.

Summer signing Sergio Romero will retain his place between the sticks, having kept goal during United’s 1-0 win over Spurs on the opening day of the season.

“No, it’s the same situation,” the United manager is quoted as saying by The Guardian when asked whether De Gea would travel for the Villa game.

The Spain international is regarded as one of best goalkeepers in the world, but isn’t likely to feature for United until either a move to Madrid is completed or after the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

In De Gea's final season for Atletico Madrid (2010/11), only Diego Alves (158) made more saves than the United shot-stopper (153).
