Swansea re-sign Tottenham midfielder

Swansea have announced they have signed Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll on a three-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until 2020.

Carroll, 24, spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Swansea but has returned to the Liberty Stadium on a permanent deal for a fee reportedly in the region of £4.5m.

Swansea have been quick to get to work in the January transfer window under Paul Clement as the former Bayern Munich assistant manager looks to steer the club clear of the bottom three.

Carroll is one of three January signings at Swansea following the arrival of Luciano Narsingh from PSV Eindhoven and Martin Olsson from Norwich City and the former England U21 international is targeting a swift transition at his former club.

“It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been back here – there have been some changes – but I’m excited to be back,” Carroll told the club’s official website.

“It definitely helps knowing quite a few of the lads from my loan spell, while I know [assistant coach] Nigel Gibbs and [head of physical performance] Karl Halabi too.

“Knowing the players and staff allows you to settle quicker than normal. It can take time to settle in at a new club, but having some familiar faces around the place will help me to get going straight away.”

“I know what the club is about too, and I know the playing style suits me so that was a big factor in me coming here.”

Carroll made 13 appearances for Swansea in the Premier League during his loan stint at the club and did not manage to score or register a goal in that time. In fact, he was their lowest rated player from those to start at least five league matches (6.39)
