Leeds accept FA charge

Leeds United have accepted an FA charge relating to key midfielder Samuel Saiz.

The Spaniard was red carded in Leeds’ 2-1 loss to Newport over the weekend that saw the Championship side knocked out of the FA Cup at the third round.

Saiz was dismissed by Mike Dean for spitting at Newport’s Robbie Willmott and has been handed a six-match ban as a result, which falls in line with statutory regulations.

Leeds had the right to appeal the charge, but have accepted the player’s punishment, which means Saiz is now unavailable for selection until their trip to Derby next month.

“Leeds United and Samuel Saiz accept the charge from The FA regarding an incident in the final moments of Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup tie at Newport County AFC,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“Samuel’s behaviour was unacceptable and the player will now be subject to an internal disciplinary hearing on top of serving a six game ban.

“Leeds United will make no further comment at this time.”

Saiz has scored five goals and registered five assists in the Championship this season, while only Romaine Sawyers (51) has made more key passes from open play that the 26-year-old (45).
