Chelsea have decided to send Gonzalo Higuain back to Juventus this summer even though they might not be able to sign a replacement, claims The Daily Mail.
Maurizio Sarri’s side signed Higuain on an initial six-month loan deal in January with an option to pay a further £15.7m to extend the loan for another season or £31.6m to sign him outright.
Higuain has been a huge disappointment since arriving in England and Chelsea have decided to send him back to Italy after the Europa League final at the end of the month.
Chelsea are waiting to find out whether they will be able to sign players this month after sending their appeal against a FIFA-imposed transfer ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The west London outfit are hopeful of their transfer ban being lifted temporarily this summer but there is a possibility they won’t be able to sign any new players until the summer of 2020.
Higuain has no future at Juventus and it will be up to the Serie A champions to find a new home for the 31-year-old before the start of next season.
The former Argentina international only scored five goals in 14 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season at a conversion rate of just 10.9%.
