Manchester United keen on shock move for Southampton outcast
Manchester United have earmarked Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina as a potential transfer target, claims talkSPORT.
Lemina has revealed he wants to quit Southampton this summer after a testing campaign.
The former Juventus midfielder has been left out of Southampton’s pre-season tour of Austria to secure a move away from the club.
Serie A outfit Atalanta were considered the frontrunners for the 25-year-old but now United are believed to have entered the race for his signature.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bolster his midfield options before next season following the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini over the last six months.
With Paul Pogba also desperate to secure a move away, United could be left short in midfield unless they act in the transfer market.
United are already heavily linked with a move for Newcastle youngster Sean Longstaff and Sporting ace Bruno Fernandes but now Lemina is also being considered.
The Gabon international, who is valued at £15m, has made 46 league appearances for Southampton over the last two years but struggled with injuries last term.
Of the 87 players that have attempted at least 80 dribbles in the Premier League in that time, only three have a better success rate than Lemina (75.6%).
