Barcelona give up on persuading Neymar to stay

Paris Saint-Germain have been given a huge boost in their attempts to complete a world record deal for Neymar with news Barcelona have accepted defeat, reports Spanish news outlet Sport.

Neymar wants to leave Barcelona this summer in order to cement his legacy as one of the best players of all-time and accepts he will not be able to fulfil his personal ambitions while Lionel Messi is still at the club.

PSG have been chasing Neymar’s signature over the last few years and are now looking to complete a deal to sign the Brazil international by the end of this week.

The Ligue 1 giants are willing to trigger Neymar’s stunning £193m release clause and completely shatter the world record fee for a player, which was set by Manchester United 12 months ago when they re-signed Paul Pogba for £85m.

Barcelona had hoped to convince Neymar to stay but it’s reportedly even got to the point where Ernesto Valverde’s side have given up, paving the way for PSG to complete the biggest deal in the history of the sport.

Neymar finished last season as the highest rated player in Europe’s top five leagues (8.52), while the Barcelona No.11 also completed the most dribbles (168).
