The agent of Napoli man Jorginho has held talks with Manchester United over a possible summer switch, reports Manchester Evening News.
The Italy international has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford as a successor to Michael Carrick in midfield.
Carrick will retire at the end of the season and United are looking for a ball retaining midfielder to bolster Jose Mourinho’s options in the middle of the park.
Napoli are reluctant to lose Jorginho, who is averaging more passes per game (94.2) than any other player in Serie A this season, but interest in his signature will only increase as he continues to excel in Italy's top tier this term.
United are also considering Borussia Dortmund star Julian Weigl, but it’s believed Jorginho is the preferred option for the Premier League side.
The 26-year-old has started 18 of Napoli’s 21 Serie A games this term and is a key man under Maurizio Sarri in his title chasing side.
