Chelsea set to recall young centre-back

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen on bringing Andreas Christensen back to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, reports the Daily Express.

The young Danish defender will complete a two-year loan with Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer and the Bundesliga giants were hoping to make his temporary move permanent.

However, Conte has been impressed with what he has seen of the 20-year-old in Germany and will bring him back to England once the campaign draws to a close.

The Italian is looking to solidify Chelsea's defence at the end of the season and has been lined with a host of centre-backs, but is able to call on youngsters Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake at present, with the duo set to be joined by Christensen ahead of next season.

That being said, Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl has not given up hope of signing Christensen this summer, telling German publication Kicker: “We are still fighting for Andreas Christensen. I have not given up hope.”

Christensen has gained a WhoScored rating of 7.10 in the Bundesliga this season, with 21 shots blocked - the second best return in Germany’s top tier - contributing to this.
