Real Madrid must smash world record fee to sign Tottenham star

Tottenham have told Real Madrid that in order to have any chance of signing star striker Harry Kane they would have to double the world record transfer fee, according to The Sun.

The struggling La Liga giants are desperately short of a goalscorer following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and have reportedly identified Kane as their number one target.

The England international has long been linked with a move to the Bernabeu but Spurs have rebuffed any such claims that their prized assets would be available at any cost.

That, however, has changed if the reports are to be believed, though a monumental price tag of £310m is as close as the club could come to refusing to sell their top scorer outright.

The reigning European champions have also been linked to Kane’s clubmate Christian Eriksen in recent times, with the Dane are far more accessible target given that he will enter the final year of his Spurs contract in the summer.

Kane, by comparison, will still have five years to run on his current deal come the end of the season, putting Tottenham in an incredibly strong position if they were to entertain the idea of cashing in on the 25-year-old.

The striker has 14 league goals to his name in 21 appearances thus far, and a further four in the Champions League having scored 37 across the two tournaments last season.
