Chelsea and Liverpool target turns down new deal

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has rejected a new contract offer from Arsenal, leaving Chelsea and Liverpool to thrash it out for the signing of the England international, reports Sky Sports.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has just 12 months left to run on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen tie him down to a new long-term contract.

Wenger met with the player on Thursday in an attempt to persuade the 24-year-old to stay at the club, only for the winger to turn down the manager’s last ditch attempts to convince to extend his spell with Arsenal.

It’s now rumoured that Arsenal will tell Oxlade-Chamberlain’s representatives that he is free to leave before the close of the transfer window next week, with the player unhappy about being asked to play in a wing-back role.

Chelsea and Liverpool are now expected to firm up their interest in the youngster, with the former linked with a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain for much of the summer.

He has started the season well and has completed more dribbles (15) than any other Premier League player this campaign.
