Chelsea eye shock move for Championship goalkeeper

Chelsea’s search for Asmir Begovic’s replacement has widened to the Championship with the Premier League leaders pondering a move for Brighton goalkeeper David Stockade, according to The Daily Mirror.

Begovic, 29, is keen to move to Bournemouth this move to find regular first-team football but will only be allowed to leave Chelsea if they are able to find a suitable replacement.

Conte’s side have already failed with a bid for Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon while a reunion with Italy international Salvatore Sirigu has also been mooted this weekend.

However, Chelsea are now reportedly mulling a shock move for Brighton No.1’s goalkeeper, Stockdale, as back up to Thibaut Courtois for the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old has previously experienced Premier League football with Fulham and, with just six months left to run on his existing deal with Brighton, could be tempted by the chance of increasing his salary substantially by moving to Stamford Bridge.

In the last three Championship campaigns no goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than Stockdale (42).
