Burnley have announced they have signed former Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard on a deal until the end of the season.
Lindegaard has been a free agent since being released by Preston at the end of last season but was brought into train with Burnley after Tom Heaton required shoulder surgery earlier this month.
With Heaton ruled out for a number of months, Sean Dyche has sanctioned a short-term deal for Lindegaard in a bid to provide competition with current goalkeepers Adam Legzdins and Nick Pope.
“I’ve had a good week here and I’ve had a very good impression of the whole club and all the people here. It’s not hard to fit in nicely here,” he told the club’s official website.
“It seems like an honest place and a very hard-working place and I appreciate being a part of it. I have seen the first two games Nick has played and he’s done very well. I have a lot of respect for that.
“I am here to try and sharpen up the competition in the goalkeeper’s department and we’ll see what happens down the line. I feel good physically and I still want to play. I come here with a good spirt and I have a lot of enthusiasm for getting started.
“I sensed from the first day I came here in there was a good atmosphere, that things are in a good place, and it has paid off with a good start to the season.”
The 33-year-old hasn’t played in the Premier League since April 2014 (vs Newcastle) when he made one appearance for United during the 2013/14 campaign.
Lindegaard failed to make a league appearance for West Brom after leaving Old Trafford in 2015 before getting some game time in the Championship with Preston in the last two seasons.
The Danish goalkeeper has only kept four clean sheets in his last 22 league appearances.
