Chelsea target will decide future in coming weeks

Antonio Rudiger has revealed he will make a decision on his future in the coming weeks amid reports Chelsea have agreed a £30m deal with Roma for his signature.

Chelsea, who have been linked with a move for the Roma centre-back in the past, agreed a deal in principle with Roma at the end of last week as the Premier League champions look to deliver Antonio Conte his main transfer targets.

The 24-year-old was part of the Germany squad that won the Confederations Cup on Sunday and will now take a short holiday before deciding on his future, which is not ideal for Conte who will want the club to get their business concluded as quickly as possible.

“It’s not about the future now… it’s about enjoyment,” The Daily Mail quote Rudiger as saying after Germany’s 1-0 win over Chile. “I need to enjoy this moment, and I’m enjoying it to the fullest. The rest we will see in the coming weeks.”

Chelsea have been linked with moves for Virgil van Dijk and Leonardo Bonucci but both deals have proved problematic and now they have elected to move for Rudiger, who only made a permanent switch to Roma from Stuttgart last summer.

Roma have already earmarked Estudiantes’ defender Juan Marcos Foyth as Rudiger’s replacement and are now waiting on the German's approval before completing their second high profile sale of the summer.

Rudiger made 26 league appearances for Roma in Serie A last season and can play right the way across the defence, which will appeal to Conte. Roma picked up one red card in league action last term and that was shown to Rudiger.
