Tottenham rekindle interest in Championship star

Tottenham are ready to rekindle their interest in Aston Villa creator Jack Grealish at the end of the season, claims The Daily Mirror.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed with a £25m bid for Grealish last summer before the 23-year-old signed an improved contract with his boyhood club.

Grealish has developed into one of the best players in the Championship and Villa will struggle to fend off interest if they do no get promoted this season.

England manager Gareth Southgate has also warned Grealish his chances of getting a first senior call-up are slim unless he plays in the Premier League.

With Tottenham expected to lose Christian Eriksen at the end of the season, Pochettino will need to sign a replacement and Grealish is back on the club’s radar.

West Ham and Bournemouth are also understood to be monitoring Grealish’s future but Tottenham are the frontrunners.

Grealish has played a direct hand in nine league goals (four goals, five assists) this season and his return from a three-month injury lay-off has coincided with Villa’s recent resurgence.

Unsurprisingly, Villa’s win ratio in the Championship this season is 48% when Grealish has started compared to just 15.4% when he hasn’t featured from the off.

Grealish is the fourth highest WhoScored rated player in England’s second-tier this term (7.38) and has been fouled at least 30 more times than any other player (120).
