PSG defender plays down Barcelona rumours

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has cooled talk linking him with a move to Barcelona.

Marquinhos, 22, is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the world and has previously been linked with a move to Barcelona.

However, the Brazil international, who was part of the 2016 Olympic winning squad, has played down talk of a switch to Barcelona and insists he is happy with life in the French capital.

“An offer from Barcelona? PSG have always had great faith in me,” Marquinhos told Canal Football Club. “Towards the end of last season, I started to get more game time.

“Would I say no to Barcelona? I have no need to tell them anything, because PSG will not sell me.

“Could I join the Catalans later? For now, I want to make my life in Paris if everything continues like this. I am really good in Paris right now."

The Ligue 1 champions paid a staggering £27m to sign the Brazil international from Roma in 2013 when he was just 19 and you’d expect Unai Emery’s side to demand far more than that if they were to sell the versatile defender.

A lack of first team opportunities under Laurent Blanc looked to have resigned Marquinhos to a career away from PSG, but David Luiz’s departure in the summer has allowed him to establish himself as a regular under Emery.

Only three players have a better pass success rate than Marquinhos in Ligue 1 this season (92.9%).
