Paris Saint-Germain on course to complete shock deal for new midfielder

Lassana Diarra has passed his Paris Saint-Germain medical and is poised to sign an 18-month contract with the club, reports Le Parisien.

The 32-year-old has been a free agent since Christmas after his contract with Abu Dhabi outfit Al Jazira was terminated just six months into his three-year deal.

PSG head coach Unai Emery is desperate to sign a holding midfield player that can share responsibilities with Thiago Motta and now appears to have found his man.

There were concerns about Diarra’s knee during negotiations but PSG were satisfied with the result of a vigorous medical conducted on the veteran midfielder.

Diarra’s remarkable career is now set to continue as he adds PSG to an résumé that already includes Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Marseille.

PSG were reportedly only interested in handing Diarra a deal until the end of the season but the former France international appears to have succeeded in getting an 18-month contract.

Of the 95 players that have attempted at least 100 dribbles in the last three Ligue 1 campaigns, only Marco Verratti (85.6%) has a better success rate than Diarra (85.2%).
