Ajax want to re-sign Jan Vertonghen from Tottenham at the end of the season, claims The Daily Mirror.
Vertonghen's current Tottenham deal is due to expire at the end of the current campaign and is free to discuss a Bosman transfer with foreign clubs.
The 32-year-old has been a pillar of Tottenham's defence ever since joining the club from Ajax in 2012 but his future is up in the air.
Vertonghen was subbed off before the hour mark in Tottenham's 3-2 win over Southampton in their FA Cup fourth round replay at the start of the month and looked close to tears on the bench.
Many believe that moment is the beginning of the end for Vertonghen's time at Tottenham and now his boyhood club, Ajax, want him back.
The Belgium international has been limited to just 16 league appearances this season and has been forced to spend part of that time out at left-back.
Tottenham have a better win record in the Premier League this season when Vertonghen has started (43.8%) compared to when he hasn't (33.3%).
