Dani Alves stuns Guardiola to join Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has been served with a huge blow with news Dani Alves has turned down a reunion with the former Barcelona boss to join Paris Saint-Germain, reports The Independent.

Alves is currently a free agent after Juventus agreed to terminate his contract at the end of last month and was widely expected to link up with Guardiola at City this summer.

The City manager has prioritised the signing of at least three new full-backs this summer and Alves was thought to be the most obtainable of the targets earmarked by the Premier League outfit.

Guardiola only met with Alves last week and City were convinced the Brazilian would sign for them this summer, only to be trumped by an improved offer from PSG that has turned the veteran’s head.

The 34-year-old will reportedly now undergo a medical with the Ligue 1 giants ahead of signing a two-year deal with Unai Emery’s side.

Alves’ decision will only make it harder for City to land another of their top transfer targets, Kyle Walker. Tottenham’s bargaining hand will only be strengthened by this decision and they will now be well within their right to demand a world record fee for a defender.

Alves only spent one season at Juventus after moving from Barcelona on a free transfer 12 months ago and savoured his best performances for their run to the Champions League final. In fact, only Cristiano Ronaldo (11) and Kylian Mbappe (6) played a direct hand in more goals in the knockout phase of the competition than Alves (4).
