Paris Saint-Germain put their disappointing Champions League exit behind them and returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 6-0 win over midtable side Caen on Saturday.
Laurent Blanc rung the changes from the side that slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City last week and handed starts to the likes of Benjamin Stambouli, Salvatore Sirigu, Layvin Kurzawa and Presnel Kimpembe. There were also changes off the bench for youngsters Timothee Taufflieb and Hervin Ongenda.
Edinson Cavani was also given a rare outing from the start and he profited with a goal an assist. However, it was Zlatan Ibrahimovic that stole the headlines once again after securing a perfect 10 rating after scoring a brace of goals, as well as registering two assists in the rout.
Ibrahimovic, who was extremely poor against City, is now the leading top goalscorer across Europe’s top five leagues (32). The Sweden international is now averaging a goal or an assist in the league every 49.2 minutes, which is staggering for a player that is 34-years-old and supposedly winding down in his career.
He is joined in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week by five PSG teammates, including reserve goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu. Despite the scoreline, it wasn’t the quiet day at the office most would imagine for the veteran goalkeeper. Sirigu was still required to make seven saves and the Italy international also won possession in the defensive third on two occasions.
Only Kimpembe and Angel di Maria (both 5) won possession more times in the defence third than their man between the sticks. The former, only in his sixth league appearance of the season, was one of those to feature in the Team of the Week. No player completed more tackles and interceptions than Kimpembe (8) in the 6-0 victory and he also created a clear-cut opportunity for a teammate.
Lucas Moura, Kurzawa, and Blaise Matuidi completed the PSG dominance in the Team of the Week for gameweek 34. The latter two were also directly involved in three of the goals in the 6-0 win as PSG put behind their European disappointment in emphatic style.
