Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has dismissed talk of his exit and wants to stay and fight for his place at the newly crowned Champions League winners.
Rodriguez has dropped down the pecking order at Madrid this season and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital just two years after he made the £63m switch from Monaco in 2014.
The Colombia international was an unused substitute by Zinedine Zidane in the Champions League final on Saturday but insists he is happy at Madrid and isn’t interested in leaving this summer.
“In football you never know but I want to continue here and my idea is to have many more years with the club,” he is quoted as saying by ESPN after their penalty shoot-out triumph over Atletico Madrid.
“I am happy here. All the people close to me are happy too. It’s the ideal club and I want to be here. Yes, I would have liked to play but I did contribute to the team’s success. They were all good and it was a very good Champions League victory.
Since the start of last season no player has required fewer minutes per clear-cut chance created than Rodriguez (27.8mins) from those to have made at least five appearances in La Liga.
