Marquinho’s representatives have contacted Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez to discuss the possibility of a summer move, according to Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender is thought to be one of the best young players on the planet and has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Chelsea included in those to have shown an interest in the Brazilian.
Laurent Blanc’s side paid Roma £27m to sign a then-19-year-old Marquinhos in 2013 but he has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular and currently sits behind Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the pecking order.
Marquinhos, now 21, has already warned the PSG board he will look for a move if first-team opportunities continue to be limited and it would now appear his camp are putting the wheels in motion for a summer move to Barcelona.
The Brazil international has only started eight league games this season, but he has already shown an innate ability to retain possession and shown a passing game that is synonymous with the reigning European champions. In fact, only two players have a better pass success rate than Marquinhos in Ligue 1 this season (93.8%).
