Manchester City striker ruled out for up to three months

Manchester City have been served a huge blow in their attempts to close the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea with Gabriel Jesus facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines that could rule him out for the remainder of the season, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Jesus, 19, was forced off after 15 minutes of City’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Monday evening and Pep Guardiola was hopeful the foot injury sustained wouldn’t keep the Brazil international out for too long.

However, scan results have now revealed Jesus has broken the fifth metatarsal in right foot and he will now miss a minimum of two months and may not even feature again this season.

Jesus has made an immediate impact in England since finally linking up with his City teammates last month after Guardiola’s side secured his services in a £27m deal from Palmeiras last summer.

His introduction to the team has coincided with City’s three-game winning run in the league that has lifted them into second and eight points behind leaders Chelsea.

Of players that have scored at least one goal in the Premier League this season only Southampton’s January signing, Manolo Gabbiadini (1 every 54.3 mins) has required fewer minutes per goal than Jesus (1 every 67.7 mins).
