Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is ready to join Chelsea in a £42m deal in the summer but will not accept playing understudy to Diego Costa next season, according to The Daily Mail.
Higuain, 28, is enjoying one of the finest goalscoring campaigns of his career at Napoli but he is prepared to sacrifice European football next season to link up with Italy national team coach Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge over the summer.
Chelsea are expected to make wholesale changes over the summer when Conte replaces Guus Hiddink as their new long-term manager, with Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan another from Serie A likely to join the Blues over the summer.
Only Luis Suarez (35) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (34) have scored more goals across Europe’s top five leagues than Higuain this season (32).
