Manchester United ready to bid up to £40m for top midfield target

Manchester United are willing to spend up to £40m to sign Radja Nainggolan and offer the Roma midfielder wages of £125,000-a-week, reports Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Jose Mourinho’s side have only managed to sign Benfica centre-back Victor Lindelof this summer and have encountered difficulties landing one of their top midfield targets.

United are closing in on a £40m deal for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic but he is reportedly Mourinho’s third choice target, with Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Nainggolan above him.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is notoriously difficult to negotiate with and signing an England international from a direct rival will come at a huge premium, while Nainggolan turned down Chelsea last summer due to his devotion to Roma.

Roma’s new sporting director, Monchi, has already sold Mohamed Salah for £36m and is reportedly willing to sell 29-year-old Nainggolan as the club look towards building a team for the future.

Nainggolan is coming off a sublime season where he managed as many league goals (11) as his two previous campaigns combined.
