Everton star misses mid-season training camp through injury

Romelu Lukaku is not part of the Everton squad that has travelled to Dubai for a mid-season training camp due to an on-going calf injury, reports The Daily Mirror.

The 23-year-old was meant to join up with the rest of his teammates for the mini-break but has instead returned to his homeland Belgium to receive treatment from a doctor.

Everton are relaxed about the situation and are confident the problem is not serious enough to keep their star striker out of their next match against Sunderland on February 25.

The former Chelsea striker has been in fine goalscoring touch this season and needs just one goal to equal Duncan Ferguson’s record of 60 Premier League goals for Everton.

A four-goal haul in Everton’s 6-3 win over Bournemouth at the start of the month has also put Lukaku in to contention for the Premier League golden boot award this season, although he will hope this calf problem is nothing to worry about to keep him out of action for too long.

As it stands only Alexis Sanchez (17) has scored more goals in the Premier League than Lukaku (16), with the likes of Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic only one further back (both 15).
