Villa explore possibility of short-term Amavi replacement

Aston Villa are believed to be considering a move for free agent Ashley Cole, reports the Daily Star.

Cole is out of contract following his release from Roma and had been linked with a move to Manchester United in the wake of Luke Shaw's season ending injury.

However, the Villans are now thought to be weighing up the possibility of signing the former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back as cover for Jordan Amavi.

The young Frenchman sustained a horrific knee injury while on international duty and is sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

Kieran Richardson has failed to impress in defence, with Remi Garde eager to strengthen in his position and it's thought that Cole, 34, would welcome the idea of returning to England.
