Chelsea have failed with a €30m bid for Juventus defender Mattia Caldara, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.
Juventus are looking to recoup some of their £100m investment from Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock arrival, meaning some big name players will leave this summer.
Gonzalo Higuain and Daniele Rugani have already been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and now it has emerged the Blues are targeting Caldara.
The Italy international joined Caldara from Atalanta in January 2017 but returned to the Serie A side on loan until this summer.
Caldara is a highly rated centre-back emerging in Italy and has been tipped for a big future at the heat of Juventus’ defence for years to come.
However, Juventus have been forced to fend off interest from Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, even rejecting a €30m (£26.9m) bid from the latter.
Caldara has scored 10 league goals in the last two campaigns, more than any other Serie A defender.
