Roma latest Italian side in for Liverpool striker Sturridge

Roma will move for Liverpool outcast Daniel Sturridge if Edin Dzeko completes a move to Chelsea, reports Sky Italia, via Football Italia.

Sturridge is desperate to leave Liverpool this month in order to find regular playing time and bolster his chances of making the 2018 World Cup.

The England international has already been heavily linked with a move to Inter and AC Milan this month and now Roma are interested in prising him away from Anfield.

Roma are expected to sell Dzeko to Chelsea in a deal worth in the region of £30m and will explore the possibility of a loaning Sturridge for the remainder of the season.

The defending Premier League champions were willing to send Michy Batshuayi in the other direction but Roma are not interested in the Belgium international.

Liverpool have told Serie A clubs they will need to pay a €2m (£1.8m) loan fee for Sturridge for the next six months before stumping up a further £26.5m to make the switch permanent at the end of the season.

Both Inter and Roma will both proceed with caution if they step up their interest in the 28-year-old as they are concerned by his poor injury record.

Sturridge, who has only just returned to training from injury, has only started five Premier League matches this season. In fact, the Liverpool striker hasn’t started at least 15 league matches since the 2013/14 campaign.
