Manchester City summer signing in line for new contract
Manchester City are set to hand star goalkeeper Ederson a new contract despite only signing the Brazilian in the summer, claims The Sun.
Pep Guardiola’s side made Ederson one of the most expensive goalkeepers of all-time in the summer after paying Benfica £34.9m for his services.
Ederson has been a revelation for the Premier League leaders this season and has finally put the club’s goalkeeping woes to bed.
The 24-year-old’s current £70,000-a-week deal isn’t due to expire until 2022 but City are keen to reward him with a bumper new contract to reflect his importance to the team.
Guardiola’s side have already convinced the likes of David Silva, Fernandinho, Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin De Bruyne to sign new contracts this season and now want Ederson to do the same.
Of goalkeepers that have started at least five Premier League matches this season, Ederson has the best pass success rate (84.9%); Hugo Lloris is second (73.7%).
