West Ham agree personal terms with former Manchester United striker

West Ham have reached personal terms with Javier Hernandez but are still trying to agree a fee with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, reports Bild.

Hernandez has emerged as a top transfer target for the Hammers this summer as Slaven Bilic looks to end the club’s drawn-out search for a reliable goalscoring frontman.

The Mexico international is keen to return to the Premier League after spending five years with Manchester United before moving to Leverkusen on a permanent deal in 2015.

Despite the fact the 29-year-old reportedly has a £13m release clause in his existing deal, Leverkusen are believed to be demanding €20m (£17.7m).

West Ham have finally clicked into gear in the transfer window after securing the services of Manchester City duo Pablo Zabaleta and Joe Hart, with Stoke’s Marko Arnautovic also on the brink of a club-record switch.

While there is still some work to do in order to secure Hernandez’s signature, the Hammers are expected to get this deal over the line and secure all four of their top transfer targets.

Hernandez has spent the last two years in Germany with Leverkusen, scoring 28 league goals in 54 appearances in that period. However, it was in the Premier League where Little Pea made his name.

In fact, of players that have scored at least 20 goals in England’s top flight since August 2010, only three players require fewer minutes per goal than Hernandez (1 every 130.2 minutes of action).
