Atletico Madrid director Caminero has revealed he is a huge admirer of Inter captain Mauro Icardi but refused to be drawn on his future.
Icardi, 23, started in the Barcelona academy before being signed by Sampdoria in 2011. The former Argentina international has developed into one of the most deadly strikers in Serie A in recent years but has regularly been linked with a move away from Inter.
Roberto Mancini made Icardi Inter captain at the start of the season but there had been rumours suggesting Atletico were interested in the striker in January and could rekindle their interest in the summer.
“We are pleased that great players are accosted to our club,” Caminero told Mediaset Premium in Italy, via Football Italia.
“We know Icardi, he is a great player. Right now, though, we are not thinking about the future. We are concentrated only on the present.”
Since the start of last season, only Gonzalo Higuain (45) has scored more goals than Icardi (34) in Serie A.
