Serie A star snubs Manchester United for Barcelona

Lautaro Martinez has made it clear he only wants to join Barcelona if he leaves Inter, denting Manchester United's pursuit of the highly rated striker, reports ESPN.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has earmarked Martinez as a long-term target for United in a bid to bolster the club's offensive options at the end of the season.

The Argentina international, who has a £93m release clause, has been a revelation for Inter this season and emerged as one of Serie A's best forwards.

United signed former Watford striker Odion Ighalo on a six-month loan deal on the final day of the transfer window in January and will re-assess their forward options in the summer.

However, United may now have to look elsewhere with Martinez keen on replacing Luis Suarez at Barcelona.

Suarez is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury and Barcelona are now looking to a future without the 33-year-old.

Martinez has spent the last 18 months at Inter but has really kicked on under Antonio Conte this season, forming a particularly devasting partnership with ex-United striker Romelu Lukaku.

The 22-year-old has played a direct hand in 12 goals in 20 league appearance for Inter this season (11 goals, 1 assist), four more than he managed across the whole of 2018/19.
