Manchester United target signs new deal

Aston Villa have confirmed Jack Grealish has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal ending speculation about his future at the club.

Grealish had three years left to run on his previous contract but had been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old played an integral part keeping Villa in the Premier League last season and finally made his England debut during the recent international break.

After United put the brakes on their interest in Grealish, Villa have moved to secure their captain's long-term future in a huge boost to the club on the eve of their new season.

"I am delighted to make this commitment to Villa. It is my club, my home and I am very happy here," he told the club's official website.

"The owners have made it very clear to me how ambitious they are and how they want to build Aston Villa. There are exciting times ahead and I am very glad to be part of it."

Grealish played a direct hand in more than 34% of Villa's total goals scored in the Premier League last season and his goal on the final day of the campaign effectively kept them in the division.

Moreover, Grealish was the most fouled player in the Premier League, drawing at least 47 more fouls than any other player.
