Bayern Munich confirm Boateng exit plea

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has confirmed Jerome Boateng has told the club he wants to leave this month but but is not against the player staying.

Boateng has been heavily linked with a move away from Bayern all summer and was a reported transfer target for Manchester United earlier this month.

Jose Mourinho’s side baulked at Bayern’s asking price before Boateng reportedly informed the United manager personally he does not want to move to Old Trafford.

Paris Saint-Germain were also understood to be considering a move for the Germany international but ended up signing Schalke youngster Thilo Kehrer from Schalke in a £30m deal.

Boateng is running out of time and options in order to secure a move away from the Allianz Arena and Hoeness has rated his chances of leaving as ’50/50’.

“Jerome has told [Bayern chairman] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge he wants a change,” Hoeness told Sky, via ESPN. “It’s 50-50. We’ll be happy if he stays - he is a fantastic player. [If he goes], I believe it will be Paris.

“When a player wants to leave and we have alternatives, then we busy ourselves with that. A decision will be reached in the next few weeks.”

Boateng has struggled for form and fitness in the last few years and endured a fairly disastrous 2018 World Cup campaign with Germany.

The 29-year-old has only started 46 of Bayern’s last 102 league matches, but the German champions have won 82.6% of those games compared to just 75% of the ones he has not featured from the off.
