No new contract from Arsenal, says Cazorla

Santi Cazorla has revealed Arsenal have not offered him a new deal.

The former Spain international’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he hasn’t played in 18 months due to a serious Achilles injury.

Cazorla has returned to training and is hoping to get some playing time before the end of the season, but faces a race against time with only three games left.

It was thought Arsenal would still offer Cazorla a new deal despite his injury woes, but the 33-year-old has revealed the Gunners have not yet discussed an extension.

“My contract ends this summer and no one has told me anything, but it’s normal,” he told Cadena Ser Radio. I’ve been out of action for so long.

“I’ve been practically unable to train, and that is my main focus right now. I want to gradually train, for them [Arsenal] to see me and see how I feel.

“We shall see what happens in the future. The important thing is for me to return to play, and then we shall see where I play.

“There is still some way to go but I hope I can achieve it. I’m a little bit more optimistic. I’m starting to do things on the pitch.

“There is still a long way to go and I have to work very hard. Little by little, I hope I can come out of this.”

No new contract from Arsenal, says Cazorla

Arsene Wenger’s decision to step down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season has cast further doubt about Cazorla’s future at the Emirates.

Arsenal have struggled without Cazorla dictating play from midfield and it will be an area of the pitch that needs addressing by Wenger’s successor.

The Gunners languish 36 points off champions Manchester City and are actually close to the bottom three than the Premier League leaders.
