West Brom captain set for next two-year contract

West Brom are ready to hand captain Darren Fletcher with a new two-year deal keeping him at the club until 2019, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Fletcher will be a free agent in the summer when his existing deal expires but he has been a tremendous servant for the club since joining from Manchester United at the start of 2015 and the Baggies are keen to retain his services.

The 33-year-old has played an integral part in the club’s evolution under Tony Pulis and the club are keen to continue their relationship with the midfielder, although the Scotland international does have interest from other clubs in the Premier League, as well as from clubs in MLS and Spain.

It’s remarkable that Fletcher is still playing at the top level of football after a chronic bowl disease threatened early retirement during the end of his time at United, but now Fletcher is poised to make his 83rd consecutive start for West Brom in the Premier League when his side travel to Old Trafford to face off against his former club.
