Sam Allardyce has pulled out of the running to become Everton’s next manager after talks stalled with the Merseyside outfit.
Everton sacked Ronald Koeman at the end of October and were hopeful of appointing his full-time successor during the international break.
Allardyce was one of the frontrunners for the vacant hot seat at Goodison Park but the former England manager has now announced he no longer wants the job.
“It never materialised as I thought it would, unfortunately,” Allardyce told talkSPORT, via The Daily Mirror. “For me such a long time without a decision, I had to make a decision myself.
“The decision was it was probably better it wasn’t me, and I’d move on to something else. It would have been a fabulous job, but it just didn’t feel right.
“I think when you’re sat in my position you want people to be decisive and feel like they want you. I didn’t get that feeling overall.”
Allardyce’s comments coincide with growing reports that Everton want Watford manager Marcos Silva to take over the helm on Merseyside.
The Hornets have reportedly already turned down two approaches from the Toffees as they do not want to lose the highly-rated Portuguese just a few months into the season.
Everton’s struggles to find Koeman’s successor will mean that interim coach David Unsworth will have more time to strengthen his own shout for the role.
Unsworth has overseen three defeats and a win during his four matches in charge of the first-team, but it would be a surprise if he were given the full-time job.
Only West Ham (23) have conceded more Premier League goals than Everton this season (22).
