Everton re-open talks with Allardyce over vacant manager role

Everton have re-opened negotiations with Sam Allardyce about becoming their new manager less than two weeks after the former England boss ruled himself out of the running, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The Toffees have been on the market for a new manager since sacking Ronald Koeman at the end of October but have made a real mess of finding the Dutchman’s successor.

David Unsworth has been in caretaker charge of the Merseyside outfit since then but has only managed to make the team worse since being promoted from within the club.

Everton were willing to offer Watford £20m to prise Marco Silva away from Vicarage Road but their Premier League rivals flatly declined their advances, forcing the Toffees to re-evaluate.

Allardyce, who has been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season, was heavily linked with the job immediately after Koeman was sacked but ended his interest after claiming he didn’t feel wanted enough.

However, with Everton now backed into a corner and desperate, Allardyce is now the frontrunner again and the former England manager’s bargaining position has only increased in the fall out of Everton’s failure to get Silva.

Unsworth is expected to remain in charge for Everton’s home game against West Ham on Wednesday evening, but there is a possibility Allardyce could be appointed in time for Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield at Goodison Park.
