Aston Villa agree £20m deal for Bournemouth defender

Aston Villa have agreed a deal in principle with Bournemouth for the permanent signing of Tyrone Mings, claims Sky Sports.

Mings spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa and played an important role in the club’s promotion from the Championship.

Villa have been locked in talks with Bournemouth to sign Mings permanently for a number of weeks and have finally made a breakthrough.

Mings is due to travel to Birmingham on Sunday evening after the two clubs agreed a £20m deal for the versatile defender.

Villa have agreed to make Mings one of the most expensive players in the club’s history and he will become sixth signing of the summer.

Anwar El Ghazi and Kortney Hause have also made their loan signings permanent with Villa this summer, while Dean Smith has also added Wesley, Matt Target and Jota to the squad.

Mings made 18 league appearances for Villa in the Championship last season and Villa had a far superior win ratio when the 26-year-old started (61.1%) compared to when he did not feature from the off (35.5%).
